With the final season arriving for the fans of Game of Thrones, the creators David Benioff and D.B. Weiss are sure to have endless amounts of support for any future production.
According to Variety, HBO will not severe their support and has ordered a series from the GoT creators set in an America on an alternate timeline. The future production, titled “Confederate,” is going to answer and solve the decades-old question – what if the Confederacy won the Civil War?
With the end of Game of Thrones in sight, showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss have set their sights on their next TV project. The award-winning duo will reteam with HBO for the drama series Confederate, The Hollywood Reporter has learned. The drama chronicles the events leading to the Third American Civil War.
The answer had been explored in the somewhat passable 2004 mockumentary, “C.S.A.: The Confederate States of America” that was set in modern times. The key issue regarding a Confederate victory always leads to slavery and if the institution would continue. What “C.S.A.” says to that is yes, slavery would be stronger than ever.
“Confederate” would offer a similar outlook on the subject, albeit less comedic, along with storylines involving those on both sides of the Mason-Dixon line and their involvement in assisting an fighting against Confederate control.
The end of " Game of Thrones" is on the horizon, but creators David Benioff and D.B. Weiss have already mapped out their next plan at HBO for when they officially depart Westeros. HBO has given a series order to "Confederate," a new drama that hails from Benioff and Weiss, Variety has learned.
It didn’t take long for the Internet to start questioning of the impending series, with those on Twitter finding issue with the premise.
Twitter is none too pleased about HBO's next show from Game of Thrones creators David Benioff and D.B. Weiss. Confederate will imagine slavery as a modern day institution in America, exploring an "alternative timeline" if South successfully seceded from the U.S. following the Civil War.
Notable points presented were the desire to depict African Americans as slaves rather than empowered individuals and the failures interests of producers to further depict the grief of African Americans rather than success.
More issues involve pandering to critics of the current presidency and addressing the separation that exists in America without offering anything new to the issue.
All the plot points of the series are not public yet, so it is safe to say time will offer up explanation of what to expect.
Game of Thrones was a success dealing with topics that relate to the world today and has won 38 Emmys and high praise for its production quality.
The Civil War is a topic discussed from either the Union or the Confederacy depending on location of discussion. It is possible the take on the war and its outcomes would help create dialogue and increase knowledge regarding the “real” issues that prevented the Civil War from being the success it could’ve been.
