The Life of a Ghost....Unexplained Phenomena
The word ghost indicates, but doesn't even begin to touch that large unexplained realm where paranormal and supernatural phenomenon are concerned, and there is nothing quite like watching a skeptic turn into a believer once they have seen a ghost, up close and personal. Ghosts come in many different states of existence and their various types are as distinct in nature as each individual person.
The dictionary defines ghost as being the soul or spirit of a dead person. Most people describe a ghost as something or someone that haunts a house, person or location. There are several behaviors and appearances of ghosts despite the most common being the spectral image of a full-bodied soul of a deceased person who manifests and then appears to the living in a variety of ways.
A ghost's personality after death is reflective of who they were when they were alive. They are often portrayed in attics, rattling chains and moaning, but this is far from reality. Ghosts often parallel similar circumstances from their time on Earth and the interactions with the humans that loved them during their time that they were living. They sometimes attempt to get a message across and are more than likely protecting their loved ones that have been left behind.
A Ghost's Life
Paranormal: Anything that defies explanation of things that we do not understand yet they are witnessed by millions of people, usually concerning UFO's, ghosts and any other unexplained phenomena.
Orb: An energy flow of light ball or sphere that is one of the most popular phenomenon's where the paranormal is concerned. They are usually rejected in pictures as nothing more then dust, specs of light or flash malfunctions, but further inspections have been hard to deny when their presence has been proven to be none of the above. Orbs have been known to manifest into full-bodied apparitions and they sometimes float in a way that is hard to ignore. They often glow, becoming brighter when they come near or in contact with a living being. Orbs have been present for many people who have had near death experiences and are usually described as a globe of infinite dimension whose center is full of love and a warm bright light that can only be compared to the purest of God's creations and emulate total understanding and awareness of those beautiful things that the world offers.
Manifestation: An easily visible, perceived or recognizable thing that can be touched, heard or seen that can support evidence of unexplained circumstances and anomalies.
Hot Spot: Typically the location where ghost equipment spikes and sites and sounds are equally evident of something paranormal and energy fields are heightened with unexplained activity that can quickly become self explanatory with ghost sightings and other supernatural occurrences.
Evil Spirit: This diabolical beast is thought to be summoned during child's play with the Ouija Board. Satanic worship is a great contender for bringing this guy forth as well. It is ill advised and dangerous when you consider their goal in life is to wreak havoc and cause destruction. Getting rid of evil spirits can be a tedious task that can go way beyond smudging them away. Negative energy has a way of ingraining itself into all that it comes into contact with. Holy water, banishing rituals, sea salt and herbs placed at thresholds are sometimes the only alternative other than completely moving out of the infested abode.
Smudging: You just never know who or what lived in your dwelling prior to you moving in. It is better to be safe then sorry later for not taking precautions in getting rid of those cantankerous ghosts who refuse to be put out. Before burning your sage ball, open all windows and doors to allow the spirits to leave freely and willingly. Now separate the stems, leaves, and buds, crushing the leaves into a tight ball. Light it with a wooden match, blow out the fire, and waft the smoke through the entire home.
Thermal Imaging Camera: Infrared cameras are a must have for any ghost hunter. These brilliant devices target images, allowing you to see a lower-frequency wavelength while detecting variations in heat instead of light. Infrared cameras sometimes create false-positive readings that amateur ghost hunters mistake for ghostly activity. The first step to absorbing the makeup of the ghostly anomalies caught on film is understanding the nature of the electromagnetic spectrum. Time, patience and continuous filming will eventually lead to a true paranormal experience and patience will give paranormal investigators the ability to know the difference.
Animal Ghosts: Animals form strong family connections with their owners, so it comes as no surprise that many people report seeing their faithful companions even once they have entered the afterlife. Death doesn't kill the soul, it simply gives us confirmation that there is something more once we have left the physical body and are still communicating despite death. Beloved family pets are often seen, felt and heard not long after they have crossed over. It is somewhat of a comfort when you see that your pet appears to be unharmed and still dutifully standing by your side.
Ghost Box: A communication tool used for speaking with ghosts through radio frequency.
Residual Haunting: Paranormal researchers have established that energy left behind from the living can remain in homes, buildings and vehicles at a person's time of death. Ghosts who continually replay the same repetitive actions during an event, time or circumstance are considered to be ghosts caught up in residual hauntings. Haunted locations where ghosts are repeatedly seen walking down steps, peering out of windows or showing emotional disturbances are some of the examples of this type of paranormal activity.
Banshee: The Banshee derives from Irish folklore and is believed to be the spirit of a woman denoting a mournful cry that can be heard by family members. It is a dire warning that one of them is about to die.
Phantom: A physical manifestation that resembles a ghosts, but possesses the ability to walk through walls and has the ability to appear and disappear at will.
Ectoplasm: That sticky goo like substance secreted by spirits that remains after a ghost or other entity has attempted to manifest.Vortex: A supernatural phenomenon that is made up of a whirling mass, gateway or portal for ghosts, spirits, phantoms, and other paranormal phenomena that draws in energy forces from both sides and allows for travel from those who are existing in the afterlife.
Ghost: Appearing in the physical state despite having left the body in the physical form. The spirit of someone who normally doesn't realize that they are dead and tend to hangout in the location where they died or preferred to be at while alive. They have the ability to move on once they have been made aware that they are deceased. "Haunted locations" are established once it is reported that a ghost is hanging around. Many believe that despite the physical body being dead that the soul is still very much alive. The dictionary describes a ghost as the soul of a dead person that of which appears to the living.
Elemental: A powerful metaphysical entity who gravitates towards inhabiting the bodies of the living with the triumph of possessing their soul. They tend to teeter in between the world of the living and deceased. Grant Wilson and the TAPS team encountered an Elemental at the Leap Castle in Ireland.
Etheric Revenant: This diabolical creature feeds directly off of the energy from living entities.
Demon: Evil in the most purest form. A supernatural and diabolical being that is considered a team player of the Devil's most violent crew of cast out angels who wreak havoc on the innocent, weak and faithful. They are nasty tempered, hateful and purposeful in their delivery of ill will to the living. They throw temptation out like penny candy at a parade. Their intentions are to deliver the most harmful of situations in an effort to get what they want, and what they want is your soul at any cost. These powerful fallen angels are hell bent on destructing those who believe in God by deceiving the living with whatever they deem necessary to get their message across, often violating our bodies, mind and soul. They are capable of taking on a physical form, and they are more famously known for possessing the human body and claiming the soul.
Doppelganger: A ghost who appears to be your identical twin but has different actions and emotions. They are often viewed as predictors of your impending death when you see your own body double. Doppelgangers have touched political figures like Abraham Lincoln who witnessed a double of his face in a mirror from across the room on the evening of his election. Queen Elizabeth I reported to her confidants that she saw her doppelganger lying very still and looking rather sickly while attempting to rest. Soon after the reported incident she passed on. The evil self appointed Catherine the Great, Empress of Russia ordered her body double shot after witnessing it sitting on the royal throne. Soon after the incident in 1796 she died of natural causes.
Churel: Disguised as beautiful young women, these hideous ghost figures have been associated as blood draining witches that prey on men. In legend they are thought to be ghost women who have passed on during childbirth. They are often spotted in hospitals and bedrooms where birthing procedures take place.
Shadow People: Shadowy figures or entities are encompassed with a dark mass that accompanies cold and eerie perceptual disturbances that mirrors a dark aura to the human eye. They are sometimes spotted out of the corner of the eye and disappear just as quickly. They are often seen as two or three dimensional dark shadows donning long black cloaks from another era, while others see them in the human form with the face blackened out from sight.
Poltergeists: Dramatic and malicious by nature, these crude entities top the list as one of the most feared and troublesome spirits that exist in our world. They have the ability to move and throw objects along with causing chaos, physical disturbances and mass destruction to anyone or thing that crosses their path.
Ecto-Mist: That eerie vaporous mist or fog that appears to surround and encompass anyone who happens to be nearby, often accompanied by a somewhat unsettling chill in the air despite it being anything but. It is typically seen hovering above ground, orbiting a particular area where there is regular ghost sightings. Battlefields, cemeteries, accidents, and sites where mass death has occurred are typically the locations where ecto-mist exists.
Specter: A visible apparition, spirit, ghost or phantom type entity that is predictably eerie and terrifying. Not all specters are ghosts, but they are compared to threatening occurrences where paranormal activity is concerned.
Malevolent: Demonstrating bad intentions. Bothersome, naughty and negative. These dark spirits are ill tempered, cantankerous and harmful although they do not normally have demonic nature. These types of ghosts typically derive from the personality of the person that they once were when living. A person possessing a criminal, troubled or mischievous mind at the time of their death can enter the afterlife as a malevolent spirit who continues that behavior after death.
Intelligent Haunting: Ghosts require energy and this type of ethereal entity is capable of moving inanimate objects. They will often interact with the living, sometimes touching the person near them in an effort to let you know that they are there. This type of ghost has been seen hitchhiking and getting into vehicles. They were more than likely loving, caring and intelligent people in life and remain so in death. Communications with this type of ghost is favorable, but this type of haunting is rare and should be treated with care since this type of ghost refuses to crossover, preferring instead to remain behind with those that they loved the most.
Shape-Shifter: This is a common myth carried on in almost every culture with each country having their own version of just what the legend entails, but most believe that shape-shifting is the ability of metamorphosing from one physical form into another with werewolves being the most common of changes.
Apparition: A partial visual spectral manifestation in white, black or gray of spirit activity or image that can gravitate in the air. An illusion or an erroneous mental representation of what most perceive as a ghost upon first sight, but is almost impossible to capture on film.

One of the Dead Sea Scrolls depicts a being called “the seductress” who has horns and wings and a multitude of sins in her wings. This Succubus tempts men into sin and ultimately drags them into the Pit. The Incubus is known to lay on top of sleeping women in order to impregnate them.
EMF Meter: A device used for measuring electromagnetic levels. When put into the hands of paranormal investigators, the waiting game begins, and when fluctuations outside of the normal range occur, a spirit is more than likely be present and ready for communications.
Digital Voice Recorder: Not a necessity to most people, but for a ghost hunter it is the ultimate toy to have when recording ghostly moans and groans and other communications with the paranormal, otherwise known as electronic voice phenomena.
Full Spectrum Camera: This cool toy can detect visible, near-infrared, and near-ultraviolet light, and apparitions, ghosts or other supernatural activity.
Laser Grid Scope: Nothing is more fascinating than an interrupted laser grid of green dots projected across a room. This gives paranormal investigators an invitation into an area where breaks in the pattern possibly means that a ghost in in the house.
Infrared Probe Thermometer: This cool tool will check the air temperature of the room and find pockets of cold air. A drop of ten degrees or more in one spot is more than likely a hotspot for the spectral.
