Sharing a meal with a few ghosts at Eggie's Family Restaurant might fall under a radical circumstance when you consider that the haunted establishment is ghost-riddled with a host of playful and hungry spirits who toy with the patrons from time to time, but you may not even notice since the food is so delicious that it is no wonder that the ghosts visit regularly to get their share of the best vittles in town.
The owner of Eggie's Family restaurant, Kevin Barden, his employees and the many dedicated diners are somewhat skeptical when it comes to ghosts, but it is hard to ignore the unexplained occurrences that the restaurant deals with on occasion. Located in the history rich town of Atkinson, New Hampshire in Rockingham County, Eggie's was once a family home to Wilbur and Rosline Dinsmore, who built the residence at 6 Main Street in 1960. Since then the home has been lived in by three more families up until Kevin Barden purchased the building and converted it into a restaurant in 2010.
The real question that everyone is asking is who is haunting Eggie's, and why are they there? One possible answer to why one of the ghosts continues to dwell at the restaurant comes from Wilbur Dinsmore's daughter who recently visited the restaurant and stated that her father used to love to cook.
Although no conclusive answers can be found the fact remains that strange paranormal events are taking place at the restaurant and large numbers of diners are noticing the activity. Joe Roy, a regular of the local diner claims that something or someone once brushed by him even though he couldn't see the entity, he felt it plain as day. He also once witnessed the bathroom door opening and closing even though there was no apparent source evident to the freaky act of paranormal activity taking place right in front of him other then the obvious.
Lisa Liguori, a waitress at Eggie's claims she has had many strange experiences at the restaurant since it relocated to its new location. Her biggest event involved a brief touch with paranormal activity when she was emptying the trash and a friendly manifestation brushed by her ear, yet she was the only one in the room at the time.
Several customers have been spooked by the paranormal activity, but the food is so good that they have ignored the ghosts that tend to try and steal the toast from their plates. To date, one of the most mystifying circumstances occurring at Eggie's involves a disappearing knife that vanished during a highly active meal that included the patron's daughter tapping the knife on the table. The noise, possibly agitating the ghost lurking in the dining area yanked the knife from the girl's hand as the eating implement completely disappeared from sight. The knife has yet to be found.
On one particularly quiet afternoon, Kevin Barden's daughter Jill, who currently works at her dad's restaurant, heard a somewhat displaced and eerie voice calling her name, and after carefully inspecting the dining area she quickly realized that she had just been the victim to the latest paranormal episode at the diner as nobody was so much as even looking her way, nor did the customers dining that day know her by name.
Word travels fast when something is really good, and Eggie's is a favorite restaurant who gets diners from nearby Massachusetts and from as far away as Manchester and Portsmouth, New Hampshire due to the great food and cozy family atmosphere that the restaurant offers. Word also travels when guests discover that they have been dining with the spirits, and it has caught the attention of several paranormal investigators who couldn't wait to see if all the hype about ghosts at Eggie's had some merit to it.
Paranormal investigator Richard "Rocky" Morrison, from nearby Salem, Massachusetts, along with spiritual medium April Sheerin and five other investigators set out to uncover what lies beneath the ghostly rumors. Armed with a flashlight, electronic equipment and an open mind they found what they were looking for.
Both male and female spirits from varying time periods inhabit the restaurant, but they are harmless to the living. The spirits are however aware of each other and live in perfect harmony with each other while attempting to make contact with the living. The flashlight had a mind of its own when it suddenly bursted to life by turning on and off when questions to the ghosts were asked.
The investigators did not feel any danger and soon learned that a few of the ghosts dwelling at the restaurant were once the caretakers of horses which may have once been a farm or other type of business dealing with caring or tending to horses.
Generations of spirits emerged with a few names thrown out to the investigators as to who once lived or worked in the location that is now the home to Eggie's Family Restaurant.
Future dates have been set for more investigations into contacting the ghosts that are peacefully residing at the restaurant; and for now the employees and the customers are working and dining in harmony with each other.
Kevin Barden is still a skeptic and has declined being included into the paranormal investigations. He feels that the ghosts have not hurt his business and that many people are stopping in from all over in an attempt to see or even communicate with the other side. One local regular to the restaurant claims his daughter was a bit afraid of the ghost until it was explained to her that it was a friendly one. In return the small girl drew a picture of what the ghost might look like.
